Bristol City Centre

City Centre Bristol

The City Centre of Bristol is formed of two ‘main’ locations. You have your modern shopping quarter, which plays host to over 500 different shops. You also have The Old City, the very first part of Bristol to be built. A part of Bristol which looks much the same as it did hundreds of years ago, albeit with a couple of small ‘additions’.

The Shopping Quarter

A journey through the shopping quarter of Bristol will enable you to enjoy over 500 different shops, cafes, restaurants, and other sorts of entertainment. You have flagship stores such as the largest Primark in the UK, as well as some smaller ‘independent’ shops which sell amazing wares that you will be unable to get anywhere else. These shops look classy too, with many of them utilising a commercial cleaner to ensure that their places look better than the rest.

If you head into the city centre of Bristol during the later months of the year, you will be able to enjoy some of the best Christmas and German markets in the whole of the United Kingdom. A true joy to behold.

The Old City

This is where you head when you want to find out more about the roots of Bristol as a city. Plenty of areas to explore here. Many of these streets remain unchanged over the past few centuries. Bar a few modern shops, you will feel as if you have been transported into the past. The gorgeous stone paths, the city walls from when Bristol was occupied by the Normans, and gorgeous architecture, all give the area a healthy dose of character.

The Old City is much quainter than the modern areas of Bristol. Everything is a touch more laid back. Relax in one of the stunning cafes as you watch the world pass by. Explore the streets, soaking in the beauty that surrounds you. During the warmer months, you may even wish to chill in one of the parks or enjoy a fantastic dinner on one of the boats parked in the harbour.

For your shopping needs, you have St. Nicholas Market which boasts one of the most eclectic selections of wares in the whole of the United Kingdom. You have music, you have clothes, you have trinkets produced by local artists. In fact, just about everything under the sun. If you want even more goods from the finest that Bristol offers, then a short step away is the Christmas Steps Arts Quarter which has a huge array of independent artists, museums, pubs, and even a tiny little theatre where new and unique plays are showcased regularly.

Park Street and College Green

This is the ‘third part’ of the City Centre of Bristol, although it is often lumped in with the Old City. This is a bit more modern than that, though. This is the Georgian part of the town, and if you thought the independent stores in the Old City were good, they are not a patch on what you can discover here. Independent clothing companies and toy companies are dotted around the area. The real highlight is a trip to the top of the Cabot Tower, though. This is free to climb and not only offers views over the entirety of Bristol, but you can enjoy views over Wales to the north of the tower and the open land to the south of it.

If you are a fan of Banksy (who isn’t?), then you can see his ‘Well Hung Lover’ art in the nearby area. This can be found close to City Hall and Bristol Cathedral.
